2021 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #010, GP Of Sardegna, Riola Sardo

Not an easy weekend at Riola Sardo for SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery riders. At the GP of Sardinia, bad luck and a few mistakes penalized both Adamo and Forato, who gained just a few championship points.

After the two-in-a-row appointments in Turkey, FIM Motocross World Championship went back to Italy for the tenth round of this exciting 2021 season. The place that hosted the races was the sand-surfaced circuit of Riola Sardo (Oristano - Italy), which officially entered the World Championship circus after that it hosted many high-level races.

The sun and the typical mild climate of Sardinia partnered teams and riders for the whole day of Sunday. The track, which was lengthened and modified for an event like the World Championship, was hard and insidious as always.

SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed Andrea Adamo #80 (MX2) and Alberto Forato #303 (MXGP). Both went to Italy after their good performances at the GP of Afyon.

In the MX2 class, Andrea made the 17th fastest lap time in Free Practice, and then finished Timed Practice in P20. In the MXGP, Alberto was 16thafter Free Practice while he sensibly improved in Timed Practice, in which he finished in P12.

In Race 1 of the MX2, Andrea had the worst start ever. The Sicilian starts very well, is among the first to take the long right-hand bend after the starting straight but remains entangled in multiple falls and starts again in the last position. His race was all about his comeback, and after the 18 laps of the race, Andrea managed to enter in the “Top 20”, gaining the last place available to collect a point for his championship. In Race 2, instead, he had a great start. Thanks to a good jump out of the gates, Adamo positioned 10th, and after a well-managed race, he finished in P13. At the end of the day, Andrea ranked 17th Overall while he gave up a place in the General Classification as he is now in 16th position.

In the first heat of the MXGP class, Alberto is the author of a good start that immediately places him in 12th place. The Venetian firmly holds his position until the tenth lap and then finds himself 14th at the end of the following two laps. During the fifteenth lap, a technical problem occurs and Alberto is forced to retire when he seemed to be able to easily finish the race hitting the points. The second heat for Alberto starts again on the right foot: the Venetian is positioned immediately outside the 'top 10', in 12th position, and then climbs up to 10th. This time Alberto drives very well for seventeen laps but the physical stress to which he is subjected wears him down to the point that in the last lap he is forced to slow down abruptly; consequently, he gives up some positions and closes 16th. With only five points gained, Forato finds himself 11th of the day and in the championship, he gives up two positions, finding himself 20th.

FIM Motocross World Championship will be back on the weekend of the 2nd and the 3rd of October for the German round at Teutcschental. That time, the guys of the EMX250 Championship will be back on track, and under the SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery tent, there will be Kevin Horgmo #24 too, who is now 2nd in the General Classification.

Andrea Adamo #80: “Unluckily my final result was compromised by the crash in Race 1. In Race 2 everything was smooth and I finished 13th. On the sand-surfaced tracks, I still struggle a bit with my bike but we are working to improve. Circuits that I like more are coming now, and I can’t wait to race in places more in style with my riding!”

Alberto Forato # 303: “Today was not one of my best races. The timed sessions went well but I didn't complete a lap as I wanted. In race 1 I had technical problems starting from the third lap and with three laps to go, I had to retire. In race 2 I was 10th with one lap from the end but completely short of energy reserves. Unfortunately, a small crash sent me back to 16th place. At the end of the race, I had to go to the medical center to be rehydrated and to see that everything was ok. Now I need some rest and then I'll start training again. I'm really sorry for today! Thanks to my team and all the people who support me."
