2021 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #016, GP Of Garda, Pietramurata 3

P2 and P1 in the EMX250 races awarded to Kevin Horgmo the victory of the GP of Garda at Pietramurata. Great race for Adamo too in the MX2, who, for the first time, finished in the “top 10”. Troubled GP for Forato.

The GP of Garda closed the three-in-a-row appointments that the FIM Motocross World Championship attended at Pietramurata circuit, in the Trentino region. Other than the 16th round of the season for the MXGP and the MX2, the event also hosted the 8th round of the EMX250 Championship season.

SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed, for the European Motocross Championship, the Norwegian Kevin Horgmo #24, who started the weekend in a slower way than usual. He finished 11th in Free Practice but he then showed all his potential and finished Timed Practice with the fastest lap time of the group, consequently gaining the Pole Position.

In Race 1 Kevin made an excellent performance. He started in 5th place but he quickly moved up to the “top 3” during lap 1, and then gained P2 during lap 2. He put pressure on the leader for the whole race, but despite all the attempts that he made, he could not overtake and finished in 2nd position. Kevin put the “icing on the cake” in Race 2. After another fast start, which put him in P2, he began the chase to the leader and overtook him during lap 9, winning the race. With 2nd place in Race 1 and the win in Race 2, Kevin won the GP of Garda and reduced the gap from the leader of the General Classification to 26 points only.

In MX2 Andrea started with 17th place in Free Practice, which was followed by an improvement as the Sicilian finished in P13 in Timed Practice. In Race 1 Andrea made an excellent start and he entered in the “top 5” occupying the 4th position straight away and then moving back to P5. Andrea kept the position for the whole central part of the race, but then he was reached by a group of fierce opponents. After many duels, the Sicilian had to give up a few places and he finished the race in P10. In Race 2 Andrea did not have the same start of the previous race and he was just shy of the “top 10” after lap 1. He fought a lot during the race, and in between all the overtakes he managed to gain the 10th position at the end of lap 10 and he kept it until the checkered flag. Thanks to his excellent performances, for the first time in this season Andrea finished in the “top 10” Overall, in 10th place, and he kept the 15th position in the General Classification.

In the Top Class Alberto started the weekend very well despite the pain that he still has in his wrist. In the last lap, the rider from Veneto was quick, and he finished Free Practice in P12 and Timed Practice in P13. In Race 1 Alberto had a good jump from the starting gate and after lap 1 he was in 9th place while after lap 2 he was in 10th. After 6 laps raced with a “top 10” pace, Alberto started suffering some pain at the wrist, so he was forced to slow down and to give up a few places. He then finished in 22nd place. In Race 2 Alberto was in P16 straight away but after just a few moments the pain at his wrist did not allow him to choose: during lap 10, while he was in P22, he retired. After the umpteenth GP finished without gaining any points, Alberto moved to 19th place in the General Classification.

The GP of Lombardy and the GP of the City of Mantua will close the 2021 season of the FIM Motocross World Championship for the MXGP and the MX2, and for the EMX Championship too. The appointments are scheduled on the 6th and the 7th of November and on the 9th and the 10thof November.

Kevin Horgmo #24: “In Race 1 I wasn’t able to overtake the leader to win the race, but I managed to do it in Race 2 after a beautiful fight with a lot of overtakes. I didn’t know where the winner of Race 1 was, so I gave it all to stay ahead of everybody because that was the only way I had to win the GP. Luckily I collected some important points and reduced the gap from the leader in the General Classification so it was a very good weekend. I will give my best and I will try to keep this level of performance until the end.

Andrea Adamo #80: “It was a more than the positive weekend for me. Two 10th places to finish in P10 Overall. Positive races, especially Race 1 when I was able to keep the 5th place for a long time, even though I finished in 10th”.

Alberto Forato #303: “I tried today too, but the wrist still suffers from pain. I made a good lap in Quali, but it’s still hard during the races; after a few laps my hand hurts and I’m always forced to retire. Consequently, I finished both races out. I hope that I will recover during next week before the rounds at Mantua”.
