2022 Campionato Italiano MX PRO Prestige MX1-MX2 - RND #01, Maggiora (NO)

Maggiora opened the 2022 season of the MX PRO Prestige Italian Championship. Alberto Forato mastered the MX1 with Pole Position and double win, conquering the leader’s Red Plate on his GasGas. In the MX2 Elite Adamo was absent; Tuani struggled in both races. In the MX2 Fast Ruffini shined in Race 2 and touched the podium as he finished in P4.

On the last weekend of March, with good weather season coming and spring on its way, the MX PRO Prestige Italian Championship began on one of the most popular tracks in the world, the “Mottaccio del Balmone” at Maggiora, in Novara province. After the long transfer to Argentina, SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed three riders. In the MX2 there were Federico Tuani #3 and Luca Ruffini #699. In the MX1 the GasGas 450 was entrusted to Alberto Forato #303. Andrea Adamo #80 was not there due to his injuries in a few crashes that he made at the Argentina GP.
On Saturday morning practice, the MX2 riders were divided into three groups. In Group 1 Federico made the 7th fastest lap time in both Free and Timed Practices; Luca, who was in Group 1 too, finished the sessions in P11 and P9. Both riders gained Group A qualification and went to the race starting gates in 19th and 25th positions. Alberto, in Group 2 of MX1, made the fastest lap time in Free Practice, a placement that he was able to confirm in Timed Practice and which allowed him to take the first Pole Position of the 2022 season.

MX2 Race 1 started on Sunday morning but for both of the GasGas riders it did not begin well: at the end of lap 1, Federico was in P17 while Luca was 22nd. During lap 3 Federico made a mistake but he then managed to find a good feeling with the track, moving up a lot of places, finishing the race in P14. Luca made his comeback during the first half of the race when he reached P20, but in the second part of the race, he moved back to P26 and P7 of the Fast. In Race 2 Luca made an almost perfect start, with the GasGas #699 in 3rd place straight away. Federico, instead, once again was not able to find some space and he was out of the “top 20”, forced to recover from there. During the first 6 laps, Luca did not keep the top riders’ pace and he moved back to P13, while Federico moved up a few places and he positioned in 26th. In the second part of the race, Luca moved back to the 17th position (3rd of the Fast) and Federico made his comeback to the 18th. At the end of the day, Federico ranked 13th Overall in the MX2 Elite, while Luca made it to P4 in the MX2 Fast.

In Race 1 of the top class, Alberto took the lead the race straight away and he imposed his pace. In a few laps, Forato was far away from his opponents and he was flying to a solitary win. Around the middle of the race, Alberto‘s pace was so impressive that he had a 20 seconds gap from the rider in P2. On lap 16 the race ended and Alberto won with more than 25 seconds of advantage over the others, showing matchless speed and physical preparation. In Race 2 Alberto made a good start again but he did not manage to take the lead; he was in P2 and he put pressure on the leader. After 4 laps he overtook the leader and he put some gap straight away. He flew to the second win of the day, which gave him 1st place Overall in the MX1 Elite, and he conquered the Red Plate of the leader of the series. The rider from Veneto made a perfect weekend, as he showed speed and grit on both Saturday and Sunday.

The second round of the MX PRO Prestige Italian Championship will take place on the weekend of the 30th of April and the 1st of May at the Ponte an Egola circuit, in Pisa, Tuscany. Before that date, there will be three GPs: Portugal, Trentino and Latvia.

Alberto Forato #303: “What to say…perfect weekend. I was 1st every time I went on track… I only missed the holeshot in Race 2. It all went good. It was a good weekend of racing, the surface of the circuit was a bit hard but other than that it was all perfect. See you soon

Federico Tuani #3: “It was another difficult weekend. We are working to improve and we surely made some progress from Mantua. Today there were some positives even though I did not get the results that I wanted. After all, I’m satisfied with the step forward. In Race 1 I had a bad first half and then some bike issues were added, so I had to slow down. In Race 2 I again had a bad start and once I began my comeback it was already too late. Thanks to everybody that supports me, we will keep working hard”.

Luca Ruffini #699: "The race went well. On Saturday in Quali, I made a good lap time towards the end of the session and I qualified for Group A with 9th place. In Race 1 I had a discrete start but a slip made me move back to P26. In Race 2 I had an excellent start but the pace of the top riders is very fast. Despite that, I made a good race and I finished in P17. In the MX2 Fast, I finished 4th Overall so I’m happy. I hope that I will make a better result in the next round.
