2022 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #05, GP Of Trentino, Pietramurata (TN)

A “double face” weekend for SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery at Pietramurata. Two solid Race 1s had been followed by two retirements in Race 2, but Adamo (MX2) and Forato (MXGP) confirmed themselves as “top 5” riders with speed and consistency.

FIM Motocross World Championship continued its journey of the 2022 season with the 5th round of the calendar at Pietramurata (Trento, Italy), a spectacular circuit that hosted the GP of Trentino. There was big news at the “ciclamino” circuit: the racing direction was inverted, so all the track references that were known from the past were cancelled, and the teams and riders were forced to restart from the same level.
After a positive weekend at Agueda, Andrea Adamo #80 (MX2) and Alberto Forato #303 (MXGP) were ready for this new challenge on their GasGas of the SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery.

On Saturday morning, in weather that was all but nothing like spring, with cold and rain, the riders went on track for Free Practice, and the guys showed straight away speed and determination: Adamo finished 2nd in MX2, while Forato was 2nd too in the MXGP. In the following Timed Practice Andrea moved back, obtaining the 13th fastest lap, while Alberto surprised everybody with the fastest lap time. MX2 Qualifying Race did not start in a good way for the Sicilians. Andrea was in P18 after lap 1, and he only moved up a few places as he finished in 14th position. In the MXGP Alberto was 3rd after the start but he rapidly lost some places, finding himself out of the “top 5”. Towards the end of the race he managed to recover and he finished in P6.

In MX2 Race 1, despite a not ideal starting gate assigned, Andrea made an excellent start and after turn 1 he was in P5. After 4 laps Adamo moved up to 4th, and three laps later he gained the “top 3” with the 3rd place. The Sicilian was 3rd until 3 laps to go, defending in any way possible, but at a certain point, he was forced to leave space to the leader of the General Classification, who was faster than him in a few areas of the track. After 19 laps the race finished and the GasGas rider gained the 4th position. In Race 2 the emotions “betrayed” Andrea, as he jumped the start and got stuck in the gate, forcing himself to recover. At the end of lap 1 the Sicilian passed by in P19, but after 3 laps he crashed and he had to retire. With only one worthy result, Adamo ranked 13th Overall and he un, unfortunately, gave up three places in the General Classification, moving to the 8th position.

In MXGP Race 1 Alberto was in 12th position after lap 1 after that he made a poor start. The track was getting more and more rutted and dry compared to the morning, and Forato struggled to move up places: at half of the race he was in P11. During the last laps, though, the GasGas rider kept a good pace and after that, he entered the “top 10” he was able to move to P9 before the checkered flag. Alberto’s Race 2 was perfect until lap 11. He started in 9th place, but he improved lap by lap until he gained P5 and put pressure on the rider ahead. Before attacking to gain P4, though, Alberto made a mistake and a crash forced him to retire before the start of lap 12, throwing away the hopes for another “top 5” result. With only one race ending in the “points area”, Forato ranked 16th Overall; luckily, he did not lose any positions in the General Classification and he is still in 9th place.

After a weekend of stops, the Motocross World Championship will move to the North of Europe, precisely in the Baltics. On the weekend of the 23rd and the 24th of April Kegums circuit, in Latvia, will host the GP of Latvia.

Andrea Adamo # 80: “Already from the warm-up, I felt great. In the first heat, I had an excellent feeling with the bike and with the track. In the second, a mistake behind the gate made me start last and while I was trying to recover as many positions as possible, a bad fall forced me to retire. A bit embittered by today's day. We will come back stronger in Latvia. Thanks to the awesome audience! "

Alberto Forato # 303: “Today a 9th and a DNF is what I managed to do !! That I have a bitter taste in my mouth is an understatement .. unfortunately while I was doing a great second heat and I was 5th I had a bad fall and I was forced to retire !! "
