2020 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #13 - GP Of Flanders, Lommel

At the GP of Flanders in Lommel, Fredriksen jumped back on the podium of the EMX250 with a 3rd place Overall. Renaux, who finished 3rd in Race 1 of the MX2, could not repeat the result in Race 2 but he entered in the “Top 3” of the General Classification. Jacobi (MXGP) got injured in Free Practice and had to retire from the GP.

After the short Spanish break with only one GP disputed, the Motocross World Championship circus moved to the cold Belgium for three consecutive rounds that will take it closer to the end of this troubled 2020 season.

There were also the boys of the EMX250 Championship on track for their 9th seasonal round, so Team SM Action Yamaha deployed all of its riders: Maxime Renaux #959 (MX2), Henry Jacobi #29 (MXGP) and Hakon Fredriksen #427 (EMX250).

After the excellent results on the sand of Mantua, the Norwegian Fredriksen was once again very quick at Lommel, as in both Free and Time Practices he made the 3rd fastest lap time. In Race 1 Hakon started slightly in the back, but his progression towards the “top 3” lasted only 5 laps. Once that he steadily gained 3rd place, the Norwegian crossed the finish line with a large gap from the rider behind. In Race 2 he was 30th after lap 1 but his recovery was sensational, considering the insidious surface of the track. While making a lot of overtakes in every lap, Fredriksen gained the 4th place when there were 2 laps to go and the result allowed him to be ranked in 3rd place Overall. This is his 4th podium of his first season in the EMX250 Championship. In the General Classification, the rider of Team SM Action Yamaha kept the 4th position and he can still fight for a final podium finish in the 2020 season.

In the MX2 class, Maxime made the 4th fastest lap in Free Practice but he slowed down a little in Time Practice as he had the 8th place. In Race 1, though, the French made a good start and he found himself in 3rd place way before the end of lap 1. During the 40 minutes of race Maxime rode smoothly and avoided mistakes, and he managed to keep the 3rd place at the checkered flag even after some attacks by one of his opponents during the final laps. In Race 2 the French had a good start again and he positioned 3rd in a little time. During lap 3, though, Maxime made a mistake and he moved back to the 5th place. After that he was overtaken by another rider at lap 10, Renaux finished the race in 6th position. At the end of the day, he was ranked 4th Overall, while he gained one position in the General Classification as he is now 3rd with the same amount of points of the rider in 4th place.

In the MXGP class, the hard conditions of the circuit tricked the German Jacobi, as he heavily crashed during Free Practice and injured his shoulder. He could not participate in Time Practice, so Henry was forced to retire from the GP of Flanders.

The 14th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, named GP of Limburg, is scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, again at Lommel circuit.

Maxime Renaux # 959: “The GP went quite well with a 4th of the day and a 3rd and 6th place in the two heats of the race. In race 1 I didn't start very well but I recovered quickly and with a good pace. In race 2 I got a better start but towards the middle of the race I lost my rhythm and never found it again, I suffered some overtaking and finished 6th. All in all, however, it went well, now I'm 3rd in the championship."
